OK, I figured out a way to achieve this using CSS. I've implemented it too, at least temporarily, so if you scroll up a bit to post #6 of Chris's quoting tim's part-italicised, part-unitalicised post, you'll see the effect.

I've added another poll option based on this possibility, so feel free to change your votes, folks.
Since it's been a week and the votes are overwhelmingly in favour of removing italics from quotes, I've gone ahead and done that. Feel free to change your vote and/or speak up if you object.

Italics in quotes by default don't make sense to me, because if we need italics, it's easy enough to add that ourselves where necessary. Smile
