The "Rosalie" case, in which Harry Price claimed to have witnessed the bodily materialisation of a dead child at a London seance in 1937 - but to be unable to publish verifiable details because he had promised not to - presents an interesting puzzle. Some documentary clues survived, but subsequent researchers weren't able to match them to any real location. Two years Paul Adams published a book on the case, entitled "The Enigma of Rosalie: Harry Price's Paranormal Mystery Revisited":

Although the book had been diligently researched, I'm afraid I didn't find Adams's proposed solution at all convincing. I was a bit surprised that Tom  Ruffles's online review for the SPR was so positive:

Now an even more positive review by Alan Murdie has been published in the SPR Journal.

I wondered whether anyone here had read the book and had any views on it.

Yes, I’ve read it. This may be more of a reflection on my own meagre intellect but  I found it tedious, poorly structured and hard to follow in places.

Thanks. I doubt it's a reflection on you.

It evidently doesn't help that it's bound up with the controversy over Harry Price's reputation. Considering it's 90 years since he was called in to Borley Rectory and 71 years since he died, it's surprising that people are still so exercised about it.

Yes you’re right. Curious isn’t it?

Courtesy of the SPR Facebook page - here is a longish podcast on the Rosalie case from Dark Histories:
http://www.darkhistories.com/harry-price...f-rosalie/

I haven't listened to it yet, but the list of sources is extensive. There is a transcript of the scripted part of the podcast on the web page.

Incidentally, people who like classic crimes and mysteries from the 19th and early 20th centuries will find a lot of old favourites among the earlier episodes of Dark Histories.

Casually nearly all manifestations happened before high resolution cameras came around, then somehow stopped.

I'm sorry but I really can't take this seriously.

High-resolution cameras have been around since the 19th century.

Portable hi-res cameras, sorry.
I wonder why these things don't happen when somebody has a good smartphone around.

Have you not seen the number of "ghost photos" floating around the Internet? Some people seem to spend their whole lives discussing them. We've even discussed a few here.
