I don't think I could functioned if I believed anything was absolutely impossible. Would make all effort worthless.

Surely that’s a bit of an overreaction?

Anyway, I often say that I don’t believe anything 100%. That leaves wiggle room.  Big Grin

I don't know, if you're jusst going to hit a wall and nothing can ever get you past it because you just happened to be born wrong or on the wrong plane of existence or whatever, what's the point of striving for a point far beyond that wall in the first place?

I don’t feel that way about anything really. Maybe it’s about acceptance? I feel that everything is possible, but ‘now’ just may not be the right time to strive for certain things.

For example: I might have chosen to get back to a place where I was able to play the bass guitar to some satisfying level, as I think it might just be achievable. But to have spent so much time on that one objective might have meant that I’d neglect other ‘duties’. It’s realistic choices.

You mean stoppage of breath, rather than heart, I think, don't you, tim?

Yes, of course, Laird I've obviously got "heart stoppage" on the brain. It is apparently a common cause of heart stoppage, though.

What I find (additionally) fascinating about experiences like this is that something which should be (at least thought about as) inherently unpleasant (stopping breathing) which takes place in such a short period of time, can lead to a complete life change.

The guy now conducts free* (sceptics note*) lectures with refreshments at his own expense. If we take him at his word, he's not that bothered if he should fall through his glass veranda and break his neck. Yet Steve001 would no doubt maintain that it's just a trick of the brain. I can't square that at all.

Thanks for this. I thought the lady was the essence of sincerity: someone who has clearly refrained from telling her story in the past due to the expectation that she would be thought crazy.

We are not told the circumstances of her NDE or whether she was under sedation or being monitored for brain activity so critics could suggest that this was merely a dream. They might also point to the traditional religious imagery which might cast doubt on it being an objective experience - again, more like a religiously inspired dream. However, we are told over and over that the experience will inevitably correspond to a person's beliefs and expectations. What impresses me is her certainty that she had left this world for another and that she didn't want to return. This is classic NDE yet it flies in the face of our much vaunted survival instincts. The last thing she wanted was to return to this life, even knowing she would be leaving behind her beloved husband and children.
I do not make any clear distinction between mind and God. God is what mind becomes when it has passed beyond the scale of our comprehension.

What was the context of Tetty's experience? Afterwards she mentions something about blaming her unborn child for leaving her behind, and blamed herself for leaving her child behind... anyone know?

I’ll ask the chap that put it on Facebook Max, he might know more.

Edit: Sorry no use.

It makes no sense to me that reproducing the subtitles of a video is contravening copyright or stealing anything of value, as I understand it comes under the bracket of fair use, though I might be mistaken.

How does this apply to video captions?

Adding captions to a video makes it accessible and educational, creating new meaning beyond the nature of the original work. Also, by applying the logic from the Google Books case (see sidebar), captions and searchable transcripts enable “text mining” of spoken content, which further transform the original work.

Edit : The post represented less than half of the dialogue and wasn't even verbatim ! You may as well make a rule that videos can't be even be discussed.

Edit 2 Okay I'm happy with that, thanks.

Tim, I've restored your post on the basis that it constitutes fair use given that as you write above it represents less than half the dialogue, and you've linked to the original - situations like this are kind of blurry but you're welcome to the benefit of the doubt here.
