Alien Apologetics w/ @JimmyAkin

Quote:Wouldn’t aliens manage to avoid crashing their ships, given how advanced they’d have to be? Aren’t the distances between life-supporting planets too vast to feasibly travel? If figures in the government actually knew something, wouldn’t a cover-up involve too many people to keep the secret for long?

I’m joined by Jimmy Akin to answer ten common objections to UFO phenomena and alien visitations. In the wake of recent news stories about unidentified aerial phenomena, I heard the same skeptical talking points trotted out over and over again as if UFO believers had never considered them and had no response to them at all. So I’d like to play whatever small part I can in improving the quality of the discourse by advancing the conversation past the initial thoughts that are commonly offered into more interesting territory.

This should make skeptics better skeptics, and help agnostics like myself better appreciate the skeptical position.

Right now, the skeptics are not sending their best.

'Historically, we may regard materialism as a system of dogma set up to combat orthodox dogma...Accordingly we find that, as ancient orthodoxies disintegrate, materialism more and more gives way to scepticism.'

I think this is an excellent put-down of the most common supposedly slam-dunk arguments against some UFOs/UAPs being extraterrestrial NHIs. As mentioned, this negative argument certainly does not prove that they are, but leaves open the considerable probability that they are, considering the admittedly widely scattered in time and place evidence consisting of very credible witness accounts plus some recordings of actual EMI and ELINT and radar interference, and videos.

Of course, this whole approach to debunking is applicable only to the ETI hypothesis. It doesn't affect other suggested explanations, such as the idea that these apparent vehicles are really extradimensional intrusions into our reality, entities from another universe having different fundamental laws or dimensional nature. If that is the case, the entities are just unbound by the physics laws of our Universe.
