‘What I saw that night was real’: is it time to take aliens more seriously?

Danielle Lavelle

Quote:But Nick Pope, a former UFO investigator for the Ministry of Defence, is not convinced and thinks that Godfrey is genuine. “He had a lot to potentially lose by coming out with this and yet stuck to his guns.”

Doesn’t a hallucination explain what he saw? “I get that people do have hallucinations, but they tend to be the result of either mental illness or some sort of hallucinogenic substance, and this guy was on duty and was, by all accounts, rational. And so those explanations don’t seem to apply – I’m stumped when it comes to that particular case. Ask yourself: how many times have you been tired and come to the end of a long day? We’ve all been in that situation, and we don’t suddenly construct bizarre narratives about spacecraft and aliens.”

Is it time to start taking these stories more seriously? “I’m not saying that I believe it’s literally true that these are alien spaceships,” says Pope. “But at the very least, these people who were previously disbelieved and ridiculed should be listened to and given a hearing.

“For everyone who tells you these people are attention seekers after fame and fortune, I would say, ‘What fame? What fortune?’ Who outside the UFO community has heard of Alan Godfrey or Terry Lovelace?”
'Historically, we may regard materialism as a system of dogma set up to combat orthodox dogma...Accordingly we find that, as ancient orthodoxies disintegrate, materialism more and more gives way to scepticism.'

I think Godfrey's remarks after all these years are pretty good. As the article writer says, he is adamant about what he saw that morning in Todmorden. As far as he is concerned, this was a physical nuts and bolts vehicle from somewhere else than Earth.

Quote:“I’ve had all sorts: you fell into some sort of trance when you were driving – all that shit. No, it was real. It left debris on the road – my headlights were reflecting off it, as were the blue lights. This was a real incident. I didn’t need the Pentagon to tell me there are things out there. I know what I saw that night was real, nuts and bolts. If I’d got out and thrown a brick at it, it would have gone, ‘Clang!’ It doesn’t change what happened to me and how I was treated back then.”

I love this quote.  Sure, there is something to even lesser notoriety that might motivate folks, but the point still stands.  Seems for many who report any of the phenomenon we discuss here there's a lot more to lose than to gain.

Haven't investigated aliens etc very much, but just ordered Alan Godfrey's book "Who or What were They?", after downloading and listening to the short BBC Radio 4 program:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0011bgy

and watching the old TV program on youtube

Well I've received a signed copy of Alan's book, about his UFO experience in the early hours of Saturday 29th November 1980...  I've only dipped in and out of it so far... but it is *packed* with additional information... For instance, there is more information about the appearing and disappearing heard of cows, and an old lady who found that the cows in her front garden, which she had just finished reporting to the police over the telephone, immediately disappeared, following a very bright flash of light?

And, at the back of the book, there is important new Testimony from a Yorkshire Bus Driver named Bob Coates which is frankly amazing! He saw the same swirling litter, leaves and twigs on the same part Burnley Road, ~5-10 minutes before Alan drove up there in his police car. Bob said "I actually stopped the bus right in the middle of it". He wound down his window and stuck his hand into it, and got buffeted by the updraft, but it didn't go very high. When he stuck his arm into the air above it, above shoulder height, there was nothing, the air was calm. But when he lowered his arm again, he could feel the strong updraft again. He stopped only for around a minute, then got on his way again.

About 5-10 minutes later, Alan was about to turn off Burnley Road in his police car, when something further up the road caught his eye. It looked like a bus slewed across the road, he wondered if there had been an accident, so he changed his mind and continued on up Burnley Road, whilst still trying to figure out what he was looking at, but as he got closer, he realised the objects shape was completely wrong to be a bus. Alan saw the same twigs and leaves, whirling around on the road as Bob had seen. But where as Bob had seen nothing within the swirling leaves and twigs. Alan now saw this object... and this is the picture he drew...

I'm speculating, but I'm pretty confident that what Alan has drawn here, is something which has similar strata as the side of Bob's bus (a top, windows, then a bottom)

but distorted, as if viewed from inside of some sort of distortion bubble. A bit like the odd distortion effect you get looking through a spherical goldfish bowl filled with water...

Immediately after drawing the picture, Alan is engulfed by a blinding flash, and then suddenly finds himself driving his patrol car, around 100 yards further on up Burnley Road, beyond the object. (Same flash as the old lady, following which the cows disappeared?)

Now remember that Bob, stopped his bus, right in the middle of the swirling twigs and leaves, for ~1 minute, only a few minutes earlier.

So... an idea... this is some sort of spatio-temporal bubble, like a time distortion, something you might call a gravity bubble, where time is running slower, so that when Alan drives up Burnley Road he sees the side of Bob's bus as it was just 5-10 minutes earlier, but distorted within the bubble.

So... wild speculation... particle accelerators... I've done a small amount of digging (I'm no UFO expert), but all this spinning, silvery, bubbly, flying saucer/disc type phenomena, all seemed to kick off around the time we started developing hugely powerful machines that could accelerate particles to higher energies.

And as an example...

During this period in Todmorden... Cern was setting-up and testing one of it's most daring and successful undertakings, the quest for intermediate bosons, W and Z, which first required the construction of an 'Antiproton Accumulator'...

https://cds.cern.ch/record/806277/files/ab-2004-097.pdf

They began running-in the Anti-Proton Accumulator and setting-up from the 19th November 1980 (~10 days before Alan's experience)... Ready for when Cern finally began to collide antiprotons in April 1981

By June 1980 Cern says, construction was complete, and that protons were already circulating in the Antiproton Accumulator

You can see a plan of the original Antiproton Accumulator, (AA) inside the ring of a new design plan for the AntiProton Collector (AC). Interestingly, I note the AA has 4 bending magnets on each side, excluding the outer magnets, as you view it face on, producing 5 faceted faces, as shown in Alan's drawing of the object.

For a bit of fun, I've scaled the side of a Leyland 1980 bus, so that it's darkened windows are the same height as Alan's drawing. Then used the Cern AA diagram bending magnet positions to demarcate the horizontal spacing of the facet faces, whilst keeping Alan's 45 degree top and bottom sections... and you get this... lol...

Anyway... who knows... I thought it was a reasonable idea... would be interesting to know what was happening at the Cern AA between Midnight and 5:00am GMT on Saturday 29th November 1980.

I noticed one thing about Zigmund Adamski's unexplained disappearance and death (that was linked to Alan Godfrey's case by a UFO researcher)... Although we don't have the 'exact' locations that Adamski disappeared in Tingley (believed to be within 100 yards of his home in Thornfield Crescent), and reappeared in Todmorton (I don't have the exact location of the original Coal Yard)... both locations seem to share an almost identical latitude?

I'm just wondering about the way magnetic fields and gravity might affect the location of these 'gravity bubbles'... It's quite a disturbing thought, that Adamski might have become caught in one of these bubbles on his way home from the shop at one latitude... and gone god, knows where... only to be discovered dead at the same latitude 5 days later. As he was a coal miner and probably had coal dust in his lungs, something knew where to return him (release the specimen) at the same to the same magnetic and gravitational latitude he had come from, but didn't know the correct longitude so chose the most appropriate longitude for release they could find, based on matching environmental conditions... which was on a coal heap.

Anyway, makes a good story...

My posts above suggested a interesting similarity between the faceted shape of the 'UFO' object Alan Godfrey experienced in Nov 1980, and the faceted shape of CERN's new Antiproton Accumulator storage ring (denoted by the bending magnet positions) which was also being built and tested during the same period.

I've now found another interesting shape similarity with the flying silver disc phenomenon which began in the USA during 1947. This was arguably kicked off with the first widely publicised sighting by pilot Kenneth Arnold, which occurred on June 24, 1947. There were sightings of these variously labeled flying discs, saucers, pancakes etc. all over the USA. These were generally thin, flattened flashing or silver disc-like objects which often moved in groups at high speed through the sky.

Here are some newspaper cuttings from the time...

Interestingly, this period of silver flying discs in the USA, also coincided with another phenomena, the building of enormously powerful particle accelerators in the USA called cyclotrons... these are a forerunners to the ring particle accelerators we're more familiar with today.

Now here is the really interesting part...

The vacuum chamber of the Cyclotron which confines the accelerated particles is a flattened disc shape. The particle starts at the center of the chamber, and spirals outwards towards the edge of the chamber as it is accelerated, which produces a flattened disk like particle path...

Both the shape of the early silver flying discs from ~1947, and the shape of Alan Godfrey's diamond object from 1980, appear to show a relationship with the confined path of the particles within the particle accelerators of their respective periods. And also, that these two periods of differently shaped UFO's also roughly coincide with the period in time when these different types of particle accelerators were being commissioned.

I think the odds of me discovering such a connection between the confined path of these accelerated particles, and the shapes of some UFO phenomena is pretty high. And also that the periods of time when these differently shaped UFO phenomena are reported, coincides with the commissioning and use of particle accelerators of their respective periods, is pretty high?

Something else I've noticed since reading lots of these contemporary newspaper reports of flying discs from 1947 onwards... ... the size of these discs vary enormously, it's almost like the scale of these objects in relation to the observer, and the background is somehow very difficult to estimate. And also, when pilots chase these objects, they can't catch them... it's almost like the discs are moving in relationship to the observer... almost like... dare I say it... that it's some type of phenomena which is occurring internally within the observer, but is perceived externally, rather like, but also unlike, our shared reality which tends hide such relationships, making the external world seem entirely independent of the observer.
