It was Doug’s passing that inspired me to post my pic. I felt that he and I and all of us on this forum and Skeptiko share something special, yet I didn’t know what he looked like. I felt that I was in a position to be able to put up a pic. I understand that others may not currently want to, for various reasons.

That, Stan, was a beautiful, warm, thoughtful thing to do.

I have a very ambivalent attitude towards seeing member's pics. On the one hand they are welcome and give us something more substantial to get to grips with. On the other, online discussion forums are rather like an old radio play, where the various characters each form a picture within the listener's mind. I can see most of the members here, at least the regulars, I already know what you all look like. Except I don't. I'm not claiming mystical powers, its just the way I've come to see things in the same way as listening to a play on the radio. In the latter case, when seeing a photo of the actors responsible for playing those parts, it can often be a shock, like being suddenly awakened from a dream.

I'm not trying to argue a case for or against, only trying to explain why I'm not sure.

Yeah, I get that. 
I also thought to myself “what if Doug’s gone and nobody knows what he looks like, and nobody’s got a pic.” 
That made me feel sad.
