Coming of the (Entheogenic) Religion in the Red Book of Carl Jung?

THE WORK OF CARL JUNG CONTINUES TO BE VALUED AT THE CONJUNCTION OF PSYCHOLOGICAL, ESOTERIC, RELIGIOUS, AND PHILOSOPHICAL CONTEMPLATION. The Red Book, published in 2009, is a mystical opus consisting of visions and records of consciousness-altering meditation practice. Filled with religious symbolism, magic, and imaginative characters, it opens a hidden side to the life of Jung, and has been remarked by many scholars to be his most important work. This presentation will give an overview of how in the altered states of consciousness in the Red Book are portrayed as meaningful and transformative. I will also discuss how the Red Book impacted his later works, and reflect upon the claims arguing that the true intention of Jung was to construct his own religious worldview, which he then infiltrated to Depth Psychology. The presentation will be on the basis of the M.A. thesis for a course Gnosticism, Esotericism & Mysticism at the University of Groningen.
