An interesting NDE by an extraordinary man.

This is one of the most interesting NDE’s I’ve seen, not because of the experience itself, but but because of the extraordinary qualities and biography of the experiencer. Coronel of the Russian airforce Alexander Zhukov served in an airborne rescue unit, parachuting into difficult terrain in war zones to rescue civilians or military in distress. When he was serving in the Northern Caucasus  region during the Chechen war in the 90’s, he was captured by the islamist guerilla. The only reason he was spared the customary beheading was the Russian army coronel ID in his pocket: the guerrilla leader hoped to exchange him for his brother, captured by Russian forces. He was treated like an animal, beaten constantly, interrogated, pressured to convert to islam. He never revealed any information, nor did he convert. After a few months of hell, he tried to escape and was shot multiple times. Luckily, he was found by the Russian patrol, bleeding, comatose, on the brink of death. In the hospital he was operated numerous times. During one operation he suffered cardiac arrest, during which he had an NDE.
He found himself in a tunnel, lit by a sort of blueish light, through which other souls, whom, curiously, he called “shells”, were moving toward a huge hall, where a thunderous voice was saying “TO HEAVEN!”, or “TO HELL!”. Alexandr understood that it was God’s judgement and got scared: “where is that I’m going to go?”. When his turn came, the Voice said “to reserve!” (curiously military term). There were three tunnels out of this hall, one to heaven, another to hell, and another to “reserve”. While he was going through this tunnel, various mutilated, ugly entities were trying to grab him. After that, he came to in his hospital bed.
Since then, he, miraculously, rejoined his unit and continued rescuing people, performing over 1.500 parachute jumps. For his heroism he was named “Hero of Russia”, the most honorable decoration in the country.
His NDE is interesting in the sense other Russian NDE’s are: I find most of them very influenced by their religious beliefs. What confuses me is that this is a highly skilled, trained, intelligent military man, still, his NDE seems to be an idiosyncratic interpretation of what seems to be an ineffable experience, impossible to accurately interpret from human perspective.

Thanks for posting that, Enrique. I personally wouldn't know how to make more than a brief comment about such an NDE, other than I think it's unlikely that he's making the whole thing up.

I'm sure you've translated it accurately and that's what he's telling us, but it doesn't tie in very well with the majority of the reports. However, that certainly doesn't mean he didn't see what he's claiming he saw.

I think there are "areas" outside of the 'picture postcard type heaven' (or whatever it is) where the kind of people few would want to associate with, may end up, but I don't want to be judgemental. 

That guy certainly doesn't seem to be a suitable candidate (for "hell") does he ? But the literature has quite a number of incidences of bad experiences happening to decent people. 

The only thing I'm pretty much certain of is that consciousness continues and I don't give a damn if sceptics think that's foolish.

hi, Tim, yea, I summed it up accurately. He doesn't talk much about it, but I'm absolutely convinced he didn't make it up: a military officer with proven integrity.... What bothers me though is that most Russian NDE's I've seen so far are based heavily on heaven/hell dichotomy, with all the accompanying attributes like eternal suffering, condemnation, etc. Scary stuff... So, my personal theory is that these people experienced something so impossible to from this side of things, they start interpreting what happened to them from the prism of their religious education. Curiously, the only experience interpreted in the manner similar to that of mainstream NDE's was the one by the coordinator of Yuri Gagarin project (Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space). Hard materialist, Party member, scientist  and the member of the Soviet Academy of science, this man goes into a cardiac arrest which lasted almost half an hour, however improbable it may seem from medical standpoint. He was resuscitated, and, after he came to, he told about his NDE with all the familiar stuff in it: the tunnel, the state of utter happiness and lightness, the ability to move around with the thought, access to any information... which leads me to the veridical component in his NDE: his TV was broken, so, for some reason he thought about what could have been wrong with it. Immediately, he saw his tv set in a sort of x-ray-like perspective, and he immediately knew that it was a particular transistor that was burned. Eventually, it proved to be true. 
He narrates his experience in a dry, scientific manner, with a lot of details. He concluded saying that he now knew for sure that so-called death was just a door to another, much better reality. Curiously, he made a comment that, again, in spite of his former atheism and materialism pointed in the direction of religion: he stated that the Bible was a "security manual" for the humanity to avoid doing evil. All in all, very interesting experience, given the experiencer's top scientific credentials and strict atheistic upbringing. 

That NDE (the coordinator of Yuri Gagarin project) sounds very interesting, Enrique. If you could post it in full some day (not now if you're too busy) I'd love to see that ! Sounds a bit like George Rodonaia's NDE, the Russian dissident professor.

Honestly, I do suspect that a small minority of NDErs (from all over the world), sometimes embellish their reports for reasons best known to themselves. Maybe they think it's just a bit of harmless poetic license and it's not doing any harm. 

George Ritchie's account comes to mind when he described Jesus Christ coming into the room where he was "stood" observing his own "dead" body. He reported that the Christ told him to stand up, you are in the presence of THE son of God.

I've never read one other account where the being of light, when it is identified as Christ, has ever demanded that someone stand to attention (on ceremony). And I don't personally believe it, but I do think I know why Ritchie would have told it that way.

His NDE was years before this phenomenon really surfaced and he would have been very wary of reporting an encounter with Jesus Christ without giving him the majestic respect that his religious community would have wanted to hear. 

That doesn't mean that I think the basics weren't (probably) accurately reported. I think when you take the totality of all NDE reports, you get enough commonalities (at least in the west) to make a reasonable guess at what this other dimension might be like for all of us but of course we won't really find out until we make the trip ourselves.

I certainly don't think there's any dissolving into universal consciousness (Peter Fenwick). We seem to retain our identity.

17 years ago, I had a trip across the border life: there and back - with a clear mind, and for that boundary - in advanced, enlightened consciousness, in full keeping control of their actions and the freedom of choice while staying on the other side of the border.
 
In March, 1983. I suffered from chronic bronchitis, and in what - that short time a strong cough turned into a solid zakashlivanie in which it was impossible to take another breath. Cardiac arrest and transfer to the state of clinical death. When the inevitable to remain a matter of seconds, came the realization near the inevitable end. It has been an easy one off the last portion of the air, but ... instead of the expected discomfort and loss of consciousness forever is an instantaneous and complete shift of attention to the new sensation - the extraordinary ease and there is no one on the flight formation, which could be identified with the pipe. The sensation of flying were familiar. Most similar "flights" were made by me in a dream before. Then each time the clear understanding that I was able to sleep, I was committed to working out a kind of "steering technique" - a repetition of various exercises that are specifically for such cases were invented in advance, in the waking state, and implemented without delay every time only became possible.  - The fact of thinking indicates the presence of the following circumstances:

There was a dramatic change of the consciousness itself, which has the new conditions radically new, radically different from the "terrestrial" qualitative and quantitative properties. There was amazingly light and depth of insight of the phenomena, the breadth of coverage at the same time to conceptualize the material properties, which represented something previously unknown, unusual, a condition which could be identified with the concept of enlightened consciousness. The thinking process is fast and free, without any - or the effort and difficulty, reliability memory immeasurably increased, the amount of long-term memory and on subjective assessments increased in order again. There is a mutual penetration of the conceptual and creative thinking, the boundaries of which are made indistinct, blurred. Conceptual thinking performed simultaneously in a plurality of parallel extending and accessible consciousness processes, among which, if necessary, is also a mutual exchange of intermediate results.
 
From the beginning, it seemed obvious that the effective implementation of a new and unusual conditions of any research must be done through the use of:
 
 - System Analysis (more precisely - a systems approach) aimed at clarifying the causes of the real complexities and on the development of options to address them, as it has enhanced system resulted in the most effective resolution of problems;
 
 - The unit of computer science, as a glance at the situation became clear information essence of what is happening.
 
Under these circumstances, the issues related to the study itself, the "I", although they were certainly interesting, but did not look at the moment is very much relevant - it was very much ahead of time for a detailed and comprehensive study them. The greatest interest was aroused by issues related to the rapid adaptation to new conditions of existence for me, and demanding, so the immediate solution.

A characteristic feature of the joint intelligence system is that its subject area and its information area are single information form. The volatile world of information presents itself here in a multidimensional information space, where, paradoxically, the variability combined with the preservation of all information about the past, present and future. As soon as - or a process or phenomenon is beyond the scope of three-dimensional space and time in the direction of multi-dimensionality, and immediately disappears and the space and time to recover only in the reverse transition.

But every material object has certain properties, has the internal structure, which defines these properties. If it is possible to divide the internal structure of the object into components that are new, even more "basic" objects, which will also have its internal structure.
