The "Fast Quote" plugin which we've been discussing had a newer version, so I've upgraded it - does it solve the problem for anybody?

I don't think so. To be honest, I've forgotten what the expected behaviour was supposed to be, having never actually seen it in the first place. But I don't think there's any change.

One thing I did check today, in the 'browser console' in Firefox, on loading a forum page, the message is shown:

Code:
TypeError: MyBBEditor.sourceMode is not a function
(firefox 59 on win 8.1).

(That's before any user interaction with the page).

I think I've got a rough idea of what's going on, but let's see... please tell me, when you go to Edit Options in your User Control Panel and look under "Thread View Options", is the "Show the quick reply box on the view thread page" checkbox checked or unchecked, and does this quick-quote function start working when you toggle it?

Oh, and I got a bit muddled with this: the functionality comes from the "Quick Advanced Editor Plus" plugin, not the "Fast Quote" plugin (which I've uninstalled as it seems to serve no purpose).

Aha - you've hit the nail on the head! It was 'unchecked'. I toggled it 'on' and now it does indeed start working.

Thanks for the time you spent looking into this, and for the forum updates which I see you've been doing too.

Super! Glad we've got that sorted. Hopefully Max will let us know whether it works for him too.

You're very welcome.
Yesterday one of my posts included a video and it displayed as normal. Now, when I look at the same post in the same browser, the video does not show but the text of the link, including the tags in square brackets, is displayed.

The post is here: http://psiencequest.net/forums/thread-me...8#pid14988
Definitely looks broken.

I tried two different link formats:
Code:
[video=youtube]https://youtu.be/kTk_gVensVk[/video]

[video=youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTk_gVensVk[/video]
but neither seems to work properly?

By the way, I've now disabled this setting once more. For me at least, it has an adverse effect on other forum usability. Specifically, it causes the page to scroll to the bottom, so that the reply box is visible, but that means unread posts higher up are not shown, unless I deliberately scroll back up - and try to figure out which posts I've already read, and which are new.

A compromise, I suppose, unless the unwanted scrolling to the bottom can be fixed.

That's peculiar - I don't experience that scrolling. Maybe you could try this just to narrow the problem down a little:

  1. Re-enable the setting.
  2. Click on the green arrow ("Go to unread posts") for a thread with unread posts.
  3. After the page has loaded and scrolled to the reply box, hold down Alt and then press the D key, which should highlight the address bar, and then (you can let go of Alt first of course) press Enter. Does that cause the page to jump to the first unread post?
Also, have you tried different browsers?
