Uri Geller - What do you think?

Reading further into Vallee's Invisible College. I don't think any conversation on Geller can be complete without really digging into Geller's relationship with Andrija Puharich. Also essential is Geller's UFO experience, and the fact that Geller and Andrija Puharich together channeled an entity called SPECTRA. This turns out to be a very complicated story.

From Invisible College:

During this hypnotic session, Geller recalled his early experiences with UFOs as a child. At the age of three, as he was playing in a garden in Tel Aviv, he saw a large shining bowl-shaped light in the sky above him, on December 25, 1949. And there was a huge, very bright shining figure in the garden:

The shining figure had no face that could be seen, only a radiant countenance. Uri gazed at this radiance in total hypnotism. Then he became aware of arms slowly moving out from the side of the body of the radiance. The arms were raised over the “head” of the radiance, and then Uri saw that held between the hands was the sun. It was so blazing in its brightness that Uri passed out from the power of its rays, with the pain of blindness. At that point of the hypnotic session, a voice was heard in the room. It identified itself as the source that had found Uri in the garden and had “programmed” him.

The message was impressive but also absurd: “We reveal ourselves because … plans for war have been made by Egypt.” The alleged cosmic intelligence was expressing the same concern that was in the minds of the people gathered in that apartment in Israel, and these people were so overwhelmed by the communication that it did not occur to them that such a cosmic power, if real, would have been able to stop a war with considerable ease. After all, if they can stop automobile engines, why not simply freeze the motions of all the tanks in the Middle East? Instead, Uri and Puharich took the message literally. And they took literally every one of the messages that followed, reading infinite wisdom into pseudoscientific mumbo-jumbo that often emerged from their tape recorder: “There is a dematerialized aspect to your atoms that we can use” (p. 166), and “We need that mass landing like you people on earth call refueling, and charging up, like a huge plane of yours charges up with electricity. We do that through your barometric and cosmic layer around earth” (p. 179).

On another occasion, the alleged cosmic intelligence even uttered this piece of wisdom: We have passed our souls, bodies and minds into computors [sic] and moved several of millions of light-years backwards toward your time and dimension. In due time we shall receive all material coming back to our main center which is zoned into a different dimension than yours. This different dimension lies beyond the so-called star, and so-called god, so-called planet that you call the sun. It is millions of light-years backwards into the dieshold [?] of the ages.

As for the scientists who saw Geller do various amazing things, I would much prefer magicians have studied him than scientists, as he was 100% known to use magic tricks to accomplish some of his amazing feats. A PhD does not equip one to be able to figure out a magic trick. That said, the anecdotal stories (is there good video anywhere?) of Geller's talents are impressive...
Here's something else Dean said: *"It may be a small difference, but if we can find a way of amplifying it, we could build thought-controlled switches. Perhaps in 50 years we will be using psi to open our garage doors or change channels on our TVs!" Since Geller is making a living off of his psi abilities I wonder why he never had a wider vision but was content to bend spoons?

So... We get UFOs, the singularity, time travel and channeling all at once. I suppose that we can't complain when Steve gets facetious then...

Well what your aren't getting from that quote is the skepticism that Vallee expresses about the whole deal. I only bring it up because the exact same kind of misdirection that we see in Geller when he apparently mixes cheating with real abilities is the same thing that we see in channelled material. Reference the book The Siren Call of Hungry Ghosts. There are energies interfacing with humans that apparently have a disposition to deceive. This is all also referenced much better than I can explain here in Hansen's Trickster and the Paranormal.

Hansen's book title seems to apply directly to Geller.
I do not make any clear distinction between mind and God. God is what mind becomes when it has passed beyond the scale of our comprehension.

Oh, I am open to the existence of the trickster(s). Remember that I have a few experiences involving synchronicity. My point was that you can only put so much in a single paragraph before it short-circuits the orthodox mind.

Geller is making a living, yes, but that's as far as I'm comfortable going with it. Can anyone point me to the best video footage of Geller doing his thing? Thanks!
