Too Many Unread Posts?

Did something happen (software upgrade, forum restore etc.) recently?
Today 11 March 2020 my list of unread posts is showing about thirty old ones which I have already read, as well as the actual unread posts.

Not that I'm aware of.

Possibly there's a bug in the unread posts plugin. We're already running an earlier version due to (known) bugs in the later versions.

Anybody else experiencing this?

Thanks for the reply.

Oddly, it seems all the unexpected threads are from the section of the forum: 'Forum Introduction, Rules and Other Important Stuff'.

I don't think I'll lose too much sleep over it, it seems they disappear from the list in the usual way if I click to open that thread. Also, the genuine resuls are preceded by the usual little green arrow to link to the first unread post in the thread. That indicator is missing from the other results.

It's interesting that those threads are showing up without a green arrow.

There's a thread for this plugin on the MyBB Community Forums. The plugin's author, lukasamd, participates in it, though a while back he announced in the plugin's GitHub repository that he was retiring from MyBB plugin development:

https://github.com/lukasamd/MyBB-View_Un.../issues/25

The most recent post in the thread suggests that the known bugs are fixed:

https://community.mybb.com/thread-71986-...pid1344967

Your experience, however, might indicate an as-yet unknown bug. You might (or might not - you're under no obligation of course) want to share it in that thread.

Thanks for that background information Laird.

If it happens again, I may report it as an issue. However, right now it isn't occurring and I didn't keep any detailed record (e.g. screenshots) so have no particular evidence to refer to.

It seems reasonable to let this go until/unless it happens again.

Yep, that's fair.
Today, just had another instance of this. About 44 extra posts are listed as 'unread'. All of them in the "Dreams" subforum. Interestingly, the most recent post in that form is from 2nd June (today's date) but one year ago, in 2019.

As before, these are not fully identified as unread, no green arrow, not shown in bold font.
Are those posts still showing for you, Typoz? If so, I will take a database backup, and restore it to my local system, and then log in under your account and investigate. I won't breach your privacy in any way - I will only look at your unread posts to try to debug this issue. I can supply the database backup to you, too, in case you also want to investigate this apparent bug.

Yes, it seems the only way that I can clear them is to open each thread, to make the system think I've seen them. I only did this for one post so far (titled 'Hellevator ride'). That leaves the other 43 posts (actually only 9 threads).

If you feel like investigating, then go ahead, I won't click on anything to disturb the status of those threads.
Thanks. I've taken the backup now. Sorry about the delay - I got distracted.
