They Sold Their Souls: Religion Taking On Secular Music

Been on a religion thing, but it's not a conversion I promise  Wink

Strangely I came across this video by Good Fight Ministries as I was searching music by Santana today. Being the guitarist in a band, I've been learning some songs by the band. Somehow this ended up in my search results: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IRbCN4cse88

You wanna talk about bizarre twisting of somebody's words, here you go. I don't think religion is as harmful as some of my passionate atheist friends do, but this is ridiculous. Watch how they take every reference to something New Agey talking about transcending religion and anything against the Christian agenda, and how quickly they assume "He's going to hell!".

What they claim he's saying and what his quotes actually read are so different it's not funny. It's the same problem that these people have with NDErs when they say there is no ultimate religion besides love, how everyone doesn't need salvation by a creed or set of laws, there's no Devil only fear, etc. If it goes against their agenda, it's time to mount the counter attack and shove it back down. Credit to the one or two guys in the comments who point out how exaggerated the video is.

Not all religious folk attack secular and New Age spirituality like this, but I know plenty who do.

Here's another one on Jimi Hendrix: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e5vh6-7Skvs

Sometimes you just can't make this stuff up. And if this thread is in the wrong place, you can move it to the appropriate one. I was kinda worried which one to do this thread in

I remember reading fundamentalists' attacks even on Christian rock music back in the late 90s.

Frankly, everyone is going to push back against whatever "goes against their agenda." The difference is largely in the tactics, because all have an agenda/ontology/cosmology/politics, etc. Except perhaps the occasional sage who has detached from worldly action.

My last thought is that one doesn't have to agree with the theological paradigm of these YT videos to think that messing around with spirits can wreck you.

Oh yeah for sure. Talk about the epitome of rabbit hole!
I remember reading an anecdote once about a church minister that called rock music "pagan"  It was pointed out to him that pagans didn't use electric guitars but flutes

and simple drums and acoustic instruments - exactly the kind of instruments his church was using in worship! Huh
