Curious about your thoughts here.

I'd rather have a bunch of us reacting to this type of discovery at once vs trusting in government officials to determine how much the populace should know.  The latter has never seemed to work out well based on history.

Very interesting film. Thanks for heads-up.

I think perhaps slow disclosure is better. Perhaps the powers that be have agreed to a plan of some sort? I wonder if the risk is that sudden exposure will undermine our self-determination in some way and maybe that’s an issue? Just a thought.

I think there are times when limitations to information is a good thing - because it can and will be misinterpreted and/or misrepresented. But when it comes to governments the long history of corruption messes with that notion.

Would you think it would have been a good idea in the Cold War 1950s for a government to have fessed up to the fact that there were flying craft way beyond anything they had - and had no idea whether who ever was flying them was friendly or not? Probably not. Greer says they are not a threat - and I largely agree. But at what point do you make that call?

The folks in the military and the government are not the wisest folk. So they are going think threat - and opportunity. If we were led by wise people I might think differently. However my point is that cover ups are the norm - whatever the motive. There is nothing inherently sinister about them. They are routine. All governments do it all the time. And they lie routinely as well [I have worked in 8 government departments over 5 decades].

When it comes to ET the game is different. Some people know bits of the game - but I doubt that anybody know the whole game. Greer's notion of 'disclosure' is only one side of the challenge. It is a legit interest but how does it fit into a larger picture? Contactees report a greater focus on moral imperatives - by that I don't mean petty stuff I mean deep ethical considerations that might drive moderating our behaviours toward other lives on this planet, and each other. It's a different level.

It really is then same tension between 'worldly' and ethical/moral concerns that have driven our disputes over what is most important for millennia. There is a portion of our community that has the balance pretty well okay. But its a minority. On either side you have folk who are not likely to handle encounters with ET well.

For example, Fundamentalist Christians would have problem if ET did not profess Jesus. Ergo Satan? How would that mess up their view of reality - and what is good?

There is a lot of talk from people who say they'd be cool with meeting ET, but that's talk. I can tell you from experience that encounters with agencies who are radically different is traumatic even when you don't want it to be. You haven't a hope of engaging with their mentality as it. I think there is a reason a lot of 'contact' is not physical. I suspect our biological instincts would overwhelm us with fear responses. I suspect also that a radically abnormal experience might lead to an existential trauma. It is worth noting that indigenous peoples tend to enter a kind of psychic decline when invading colonists rupture their world view. Is there any reason not to expect the same thing might happen to us?

When folk get together and talk ET they tend to think everyone else is like them - and they over-estimate their own ability to respond. Radical experience can induce trauma and create an existential contamination. If that radical experience violates tightly held norms the traumatic response will be greater.

For me government cover ups are normal. On an ideal level sometimes its a good thing, sometimes it is not - but we don't know. While Greer demands 'disclosure' I'd suggest that ET has been 'disclosing' for decades in our modern era. The choice to zip around the skies is, I'd suggest, intentional. We are being drawn out slowly because we are so dense.

There are reports that ET has been disabling nukes in the US and 'enabling' them Russia - freaking both out. The 1950s movie The Day the Earth Stood Still is, I think, an inspired interpretation of intent.

There are all kind of scenario modelling about ET popping out of their craft - and they are interesting to explore. There's no agreement of course.

Personally I am glad governments are keeping quiet. We have had 70 years of fairly constant exposure to the idea of ET, including being invite to consider they are here already - and we are still a community of brainless jerks. Nothing I see convinces me to be optimistic. Consider what a complete cock up we are making in response to a virus - and that wants to invade us.

I was accidentally involved in a UFO/ET group in the early 1970s. We had some seriously weird shit happening. I cannot say it was ET, but it sure was something capable doing amazing things. I got away from it because I thought the people I was with were nuts, and I feared I was going nuts too. I had freaky things happening in the mid 90s too. I know to my own satisfaction that there is powerful agency associated with what we call ET. The stuff bugging the US military is not even half it.
