Skeptiko forums other than its show forum to be closed [split from: Happy fourth board anniversary]

People are free to invite whoever they want but that crazy stuff as you call it will not be welcome, tim, and we reserve the right to choose who we allow in. This is a psi forum, and that should be the main focus.

Understood. I don't think I'll actively encourage participation now that I've thought about it. Your point is well made!  Thumbs Up

Maybe selectively; would be my reaction.

Can always PM anyone there who you find to be thoughtful and without a CT axe to grind.  I'm going to think about that myself and may reach out to a member or two suggesting they check things out here.

I honestly wish the forum wasn't mentioned in the skeptiko thread. As Rick Archer had said a while ago, the inclusion and later domination of the podcast with conspiracy stuff has completely wasted the potential for Alex to actually help people, and has merely turned into a new form of masturbation for people with far too much time on their hands. The podcast would have done the most good by merely facilitating more discussions between skeptics and proponents of consciousness science, which is still sorely needed today.

Sorry, I'm just waking up but I'm not sure what you're referring to. Does 'the forum' mean the Psience Quest forum or the Skeptiko forum? And does 'the skeptiko thread' refer to a thread on the Skeptiko forum or a thread on this forum?
Apologies for being so dense.

I think he’s saying that he wishes PQ hadn’t been mentioned on Skeptiko, so that those horrible ‘conspiracy theory’ people don’t feel the need to come here and ‘pollute’ PQ. Who knows? they might, as they will have nowhere else to go when Alex shuts down the other threads as he’s promised to do, keeping only one open, one that relates to his weekly show. They might, but I doubt they will.

I do think people’s moaning about things finally led to Alex’s latest decision, but he was always going to concentrate on his main interest. He is not really into democracy where Skeptiko is concerned!  Big Grin
Oh my God, I hate all this.   Surprise

I do hope we can distinguish between content and people. Personally I have no animosity towards or dislike of any of the people involved. I'm serious about that, in fact I'm deeply concerned and care about people and their well-being. Just how to best help people is a more complicated matter sometimes, especially when there is either hurt or pressure involved.

Well, there’s theory and then there’s what actually happens. Imo there’s possibly an interesting conversation to be had, but is it one that would be welcome in this forum? After all this topic is hardly PSI related. Or is it?

That’s why I miss the old Skeptiko. It was a place where almost anything could be discussed.

Who here consistently listens to Rick Archer? Occasionally I do when I recognise a guest, but I gave up listening on a regular basis when I realised that many of his guests seemed as delusional to me as any ‘flat earther’. Not all of them, but many. To me.

I think that Alex is as worth listening to as Rick. I wonder how much their disagreement about ‘climate change’ has really had on their relationship?

Which is why I think the conversation I talked about with @Typoz in post #18 of this thread might be interesting.

Well, I miss the old mind-energy.net forums. That was before Alex led us like the pied piper, away from that place to one where he was in control. I guess it was never about Alex for me, in fact I joined simply to discuss some news which was current at the time (years ago now) about the AWARE study. Having felt ourselves hemmed in and restricted under the new-improved skeptiko forum, some of us - including yourself, moved to a new location. As I recall, there was also a forum set up by @chuck which might have turned out differently. I'd certainly have been happy if that venture had continued, but it was abandoned and so this was what was left. There has never been any obstacle (except perhaps lack of technical expertise) in the way of having forums run by anyone who chooses to.

However, as I said elsewhere, I look forward to the future here with hope and optimism. I've always felt it is the only way to approach anything that we wish to succeed. I also extend the same hope and optimism towards yourself and other members.
