More mysterious alerts.

I got this alert about being quoted in a post:
https://psiencequest.net/forums/alerts.p...w&id=36133

which goes to this url
https://psiencequest.net/forums/thread-p...7#pid18947

18943 is the last post in that thread, at this time.

As far as I can tell there is no pid 18947 in that thread at this time. I don't see deleted posts that could account for it. There is no nearby post that quotes me that could be explained by being off by a few numbers

I blocked a few people today, out of compassion so I would not be tempted to troll them, but not the person the alert is said to be from.

Also I am not getting all the alerts I think I should be, I see posts that quote me that I never got an alert about.
The first gulp from the glass of science will make you an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you - Werner Heisenberg. (More at my Blog & Website)

I have no idea what's that about, Jim. Maybe Laird will know.

I think this may simply down to the way people use the forum. If a quote is generated automatically by the forum software, then it should generate an alert.

But if a user just copies and pastes something, and types a username manually, then no alert would exist.

Example:

So it's because Jim quoted himself?  LOL

That's right, we turned off visibility of deleted posts for non-moderators due to a bug.

I noticed, strangely, though, that I couldn't even see the post as a moderator. It turns out that it's an unposted draft.

This seems to me to be another bug or at least unintended "feature" of the MyAlerts plugin.

That's another potential bug in the alerts plugin. I've made a note of it.

Hopefully this bug is now fixed (on our copy of the forum software - upstream seems pretty inactive [edit: though I filed an issue and associated pull request anyhow]).
