‘Spirits more normal than the regular world’: San Antonio psychic-medium talks about connecting with spirits

Erica Hernandez

Quote:For some seeing or hearing a ghost can be terrifying but for others it’s normal.

Fred Garza-Guzman is a psychic-medium and co-owner of Curious Twins Paranormal. His work includes giving ghosts tours of San Antonio as well as providing spiritual services to the public.

“We provide readings, teaching spirit communication, and helping people channel their loved ones who have departed,” Garza-Guzman said.

Since he was a child, Garza-Guzman has always had dreams, feelings and intuitions that others don’t have, but it was something that he learned to embrace.

“I think it’s just been a part of our lives, and so we try to understand it and make it approachable,” Garza-Guzman said.

I have to smile at the weird responses and dire warnings from Christians. Texas though - 'nuff said.
I do not make any clear distinction between mind and God. God is what mind becomes when it has passed beyond the scale of our comprehension.

Heh, I had to go back to realize you were talking about the comment sections.

It's an interesting question, regarding the entities we might allow into our lives...and couldn't they also masquerade as gods if they wanted...though you have the blending of Christianity with practices like Santeria which would have practices akin to medium seances?

I was intrigued with the idea expressed in one of the comments that the souls of the dead must be demonic. I guess they get that from the bible but why should it be that only demons are able to/allowed to communicate with the living? Is it something to do with God's chosen being in some form of limbo until Judgement Day arrives? I find there are so many conflicting ideas that it seems to be a kind of pick-and-mix of assertions from the various factions.

One of the reasons I turned away from religion in general and Christianity in particular was the - at times hypocritical - inconsistency. The New Testament was supposed to be a revision of the Old Testament worldview which tended towards the severe and vengeful which was supposedly replaced by the message of love and tolerance. Yet to many evangelicals, the Old Testament seems to be the main influence as can be seen in the American Christian Right with a bible in one hand and a gun in the other.

Thinking as I do that the Creator of this world is a very cruel being, & being a worshipper of Christ, I cannot help saying: "the Son, O how unlike the Father!" First God Almighty comes with a thump on the head. Then Jesus Christ comes with a balm to heal it.

Well the very question of a Heaven where souls await the world to enter into Final Judgement...this can and has been disputed. This idea [of an after life] might be due to Luke, a Greek, interpreting Jesus's words with the idea of Hades in mind.

But this means the dead are either Forms - less than shades - missing flesh until the Resurrection...or have ceased to exist until then...Perhaps needless to say this is not a popular interpretation...

Yep. I was watching the final episode of the Netflix Surviving Death documentary last night and one of the parents - a Christian policeman - said that having come to believe that is son is a reincarnation, his Christian faith is not shaken because they have been taught about souls and there is no reason why a soul cannot return to a new life.

I had a Catholic friend in highschool who believed in reincarnation because she felt unbelievers who were good people would not be damned by a just God. The impetus for this addition to the faith being the fact her father was an atheist.

I think religion naturally evolves like this, though now with global information networks it isn't clear what Survival evidence will do to existing belief systems in the long run.

There's been some recent argument- in terms of [academic] history - that much of modern religion has a singular source, a "novel" written by a shaman in Africa.

That might show a path to get back to a sort of "core" of faith, where gods/goddesses/etc are facets of divine beings or just those divine beings seen through a "glass darkly".
