Done. Everything's reverted except for the 30 pixel bottom margin to separate posts.
A thing is that other forums have their buttons at the top of a post, and here they are at the bottom. So it's good if one can intuitively pick the right ones, without having to think too much about it.

A bit darker line than the original would be good I think.

Oh, I didn't read properly - have darkened the background rather than the top border. Anyhow, let me know what you guys think.

I like it.
I've added a new display theme which is a very slight variation on the current default. I named it Variation.

It can be selected via the User Control Panel (User CP), or more simply, using Quick Theme Select  drop-down-list at the bottom of the page.

If anyone likes/dislikes it, or it is broken, please feel free to comment.

A little further explanation regarding the theme that I added, it was an attempt to supply a possibly improved way to handle the suggestion made  at the start of this thread,

Quote:"A suggestion would be, if possible, to make the boarders between posts more distinct."

What I did affects only the page where viewing threads.

I removed the overall border. Instead I put a border around each individual post. And some rounded corners to make it less jarring. To my eyes it does make it clearer where each post starts and ends, especially when the post itself may contain nested quotes or some other complicated content.

Please see attached image - current default is on the left.

If this meets with approval, it is suggested that these changes are incorporated into the Default theme.

Comments?

Typoz

My comments? Genius. Let's get this into the default theme ASAP. I am 99.9% sure that Max and Slorri will approve too, but we'll see.
Yes, that's the way I like it.

I've got one more detail before we go all in with this. Perhaps the background colour of the signature should be slightly different to the main post.

As it is now we run the risk of reading the signature as part of the post.

Well. I've made a slight darkening of the signature background. Perhaps it needs to be darker still?

My preferred way to deal with signatures is to alter my own settings in the control panel (User CP) to hide the signatures.

It is an individual choice, under "Edit Options", "Thread View Options", "Display users' signatures in their posts".
