| I've only ever shared this with certain members of my immediate family but for some reason I'm compelled to share with others now due to some experiences I've had lately that make me think this is going to be useful for someone. When I was 16 (now 43), I was involved in a head on collision on a overpass where I was driving my little Honda Civic hatchback and a large Buick sedan came into my lane at the crest of the overpass (she fell asleep) and crashed into me. I don't consider this a NDE since I wasn't close to death - I was wearing a seatbelt that saved my life and just went unconscious (kinda) when crash occurred. Since she fell asleep and I didn't see her coming until the last second, we basically hit head on at 35 to 40 MPH. I remember seeing her headlights (it was around midnight) and screaming upon impact and then I "popped" out of my body and was hovering over the scene looking down at the crash scene. I remember watching the lady get out of her car and go over to look at me passed out in my car and her walking in circles saying "oh shit, oh shit, oh shit". Then another car came and stopped and he had the woman sit down on the curb and he came over to me and checked to see if I was alive. This is where things got interesting because I could "hear" everything both he and the woman were thinking. Then, even stranger, I thought about my friends I was supposed to be meeting and I could hear my two friends talking about me a couple miles away. I was driving over the overpass to go to a restaurant in a mall where my friends and I worked as busboys so I was going to meet them there after they got off their shifts to play some Street Fighter 2. I could hear them talking about me being late and where was I and saying I was probably with my girlfriend blah blah blah...Then I thought about my parents getting a phone call about the accident and I could "see" them in their beds asleep like from above. In the moment(s) this was occurring, I had no thoughts of the experience being odd, it was only later recalling this experience that I thought, "hmm, that was weird." Anyways, I suddenly became aware I was back in my body in an ambulance and the OBE was over and I was headed to the hospital. Over the years, I have revisited this experience so many times trying to make sense of it and it definitely has led to my strong belief that mind doesn't equal brain but also, it motivated me to replicate the experience. Oddly, I've been at the doorstep of many OBE's since during meditation, but when the door opens and I feel intense "vibrations", there is a fear there that bubbles up and keeps me in my body - at least that's what I think is happening. The closest experience I've had to my OBE was with psilocybin mushrooms but that experience was different and had elements of NDE's I've read. | ||
