Neuronal Connection at a Distance?

I was re-reading this interview with Rupert Sheldrake from a few years ago, and for whatever reason, I decided to check out the comment section this time. One of the entries caught my eye...

While working on my undergrad in Electrical Engineering I got the privilege to sit in on an IEEE talk by a professor - I don't recall his name, so let's call him Dr. "Zic". He was doing research in biological computing and had successfully transferred rabbit brain cells to glass plates. His work was aimed to being able to use biological systems for complex computing. I found the lecture interesting, but the one thing that I have never forgotten was that he had discovered that when connected brain cells we severed that they still showed some sign of communication even when separated across the room. I'll never forget how he paused, and with a deep sigh, looked over his glasses and said "We have no explanation for this phenomena and if you're willing to throw away your credibility, then you can pursue research into this..."

I tried looking up info on this; preliminary efforts yielded a lot of pages relating to splitting the hemispheres of the brain. Would anyone here know more about this?

Given the anonymity of the comment, no name, no place, no date given for the lecture, it would seem a bit problematic to investigate. I suspect that something which is said in a talk won't necessarily find its way into any formal publication, quite the contrary, given the cautionary notice, "if you're willing to throw away your credibility, then you can pursue research into this...".

Well, I didn't expect or care for any information on the specific lecture - it's the phenomenon of once-connected neurons exhibiting signs of communication at a distance I'm curious about. And I'd agree that it doesn't sound like something that'd make its way into a formal write-up, but it never hurts to ask.

Not really the same thing, but Mysterious Universe has an article about brain waves being able to propagate across a cut in tissue. The author rather optimistically says this sounds like "proof-of-concept of telepathy":
