Quote:John Cleese came to Charlottesville this week not to reprise famous roles with Monty Python, but to introduce paranormal research being conducted at the University of Virginia.

Cleese, a co-founder of the legendary comic group, sits on the advisory board of UVa’s Division of Perceptual Studies. Part of the School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry & Neurobehavioral Sciences, the group studies past lives, the nature of consciousness and near-death experiences. While Cleese’s moderation lent levity, Thursday’s panel sought to help the audience at the Tom Tom Founder’s Festival event understand serious and clinical research into unusual phenomena.

“Normally, I try to ask questions to see what people are interested in. But with you lot, I haven’t the slightest idea whether you’re interested in these ideas or whether you’re one of those materialist reductionists,” Cleese said to the audience while sitting with five researchers on the stage of the Paramount Theater. “But let’s give it a shot, shall we?”

I thought this was good too, Ian. I posted it over in the NDE section last week but no one picked up on it except Doug.
