I suddenly
I wasn’t in on the decision but yes at the very least it’s worth discussing.
Personally I would rather another approach being used, at least for this situation as I (quickly) read it.
In that case, I'll unlock the thread - I was simply responding to the request of the opening poster which seemed at least superficially reasonable, but I accept that my decision may have been a little hasty and unreflective.
Laird, you're an awesome dude.

Frankly, I was quite surprised at your willingness to do that in the first place, Laird. I fully accept that you have to be neutral, but you made no mention of that posters main insults aimed at me... I'm an imbecile etc.

I don't need protection, I can stand up for myself. The least I would have expected would have been NOT to lock the thread, effectively making it look like I was a complete asshole. Poor form , Laird !
Hey tim. I'm sorry you feel I didn't handle the situation well. I intended for my post to refer to the insults on both sides - my comments in quotes were intended to be the sort of insults of each others' intelligence that had been made in the thread, rather than direct quotes from one party or the other, although obviously the one about IQ barely above average could be traced more directly to PR and the one including "moron" more directly to you. And I think you'd agree that the insults were on both sides.

The locking of the thread was definitely not about making you out to be an asshole. It was due to the thread's having degenerated into personal animosity on both sides.

Anyhow, it was all a very unfortunate situation which I hope has come to an end. FWIW, I think you're both good guys with good intentions - it's just that sometimes personal dynamics get messy despite our best intentions, and we lose our cool.
To be honest, our new “researcher” jumped the gun and resorted to questioning another user’s IQ and throwing epithets almost out of the gate... But, I resent that the thread was locked before I could lob a joke comparing him to Peter Venkman (“Back off man, I’m a scientist.”).

Of all the pretentious jackasses and trolls that we have seen, this boy may just take the cake. He must think that we are a bunch of hicks that go on daily Bigfoot hunts (or something to that effect).

Thanks, Laird but I still think that poster was out of order.

Stating one's position on how one sees the situation in question having happened is fine, but maybe we should show a bit of restraint when it comes to piling on the name-calling?

We are asking for this minimal principle of respect from all contributors.
