The speculation about the "Aware II" study is that maybe Parnia will announce within six months that he has had a couple of "hits" in his OBE verification experiment with an LCD screen above the hospital bed. My personal view is that this is very unlikely. Apropos of this I thought one of the comments posted to the linked blog article is interesting. I have often thought along these lines, though I have not had an NDE:

(posted by "shachar"):

"I haven’t experienced NDE myself but served in the army with a great guy who died and came back (he had an allergy to iodine so he luckily died at the hospital during a medical procedure). He had a very long and detailed experience that he shared with close friends. I sent him a message recently, notified him about the AWARE study, thought that will be interesting to hear what he thought. He quite fast said that he will be “very surprised” if this research will provide real proofs. I of course asked him why and he explained that “the system” is based on a separation between the two realities (here and up there) so the system won’t let it leack out and will block the evidence because the principle of separation between the two world must be kept. He said it was hard to explain but they cannot let that happen. I told him that if so why would he remember everything, and he said he isn’t sure why he personally came back with the memory and the system might failed to delete his experience. According to his view the AWARE study results aren’t important and aren’t relevant to our lives here. We should simply live them and choose every moment to do the right thing and do no harm without expecting to earn a carrot or afraid to get punished if we do wrong."

Yes, I saw the speculation but I can't find it now. That NDE report is from Ben Williams' blog comments section  (Aware of Aware). I also don't think he will have any hits yet, he won't have anywhere near the volume of cardiac arrests to catch one...unless he's been very lucky. And he doesn't seem to be lucky at all.

ADDDED : The link to the speculation was on Ben's blog posted by Eduardo.  https://www.aol.com/article/news/2017/10.../23246008/

"Parnia is in the midst of working on a follow-up study, called AWARE II, with a public announcement likely in the next six months."

.........................................................................................................................

Here is another emergency room physician (which you've probably seen) who has seen more than 2000 patients die and is in complete agreement with Parnia.

Skip the first bit, it's a little tedious but at 5.55 he gets to the point.

Thomas Fleischmann has been an emergency physician since 1982. Since 2005 he has worked as the director of emergency medicine units in Germany and Switzerland. As well as being a fellow of the British College of Emergency Medicine and the European Society for Emergency Medicine, Dr Fleischmann holds a Master of Health Business Administration. In addition to frequently holding speeches about emergency medicine topics, he is also the editor of two textbooks on emergency medicine and has written many academic papers on the topic.

Another clear statement from Parnia regarding consciousness in the first period after death.

I actually think that if Parnia was to announce an "inconclusive" amount of hits (1-2), it could potentially mean an unprecedented influx of interest in the field, if not necessarily of money.
"Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before..."

An article from Healthline. https://www.healthline.com/health-news/w...ter-we-die

Quote:Death has always been defined by when the heart stops beating, because what happens when the heart stops beating is that there’s no blood getting around the body, so almost immediately a person stops breathing and their brain shuts down and becomes non functional,” Dr. Sam Parnia, co-author of a recent study of life after death by a team at the NYU Langone School of Medicine, told Healthline. “This is clinically referred to as cardiac arrest.”

Parnia explains that when a person is resuscitated with CPR, the brain only gets about 15 percent of the blood that normally circulates to it.

“This isn’t enough to reactivate the brain, so the brain by in large remains flat and doesn’t function during CPR,” said Parnia. “As soon as the heart stops, you not only lose consciousness and your brain stem reflexes are all gone, but also the electricity that your brain creates slows down immediately, and within about 2 to 20 seconds it completely flatlines.”

Up until Parnia’s current research, it’s been thought that when a person flatlines, they must be unconscious because no brain waves are detected. However, he’s challenging this notion.

“We think of death as a finite time,” Parnia said. “But science has come to understand that after a person has died, the cells inside the body start to undergo a process of death themselves, which takes a number of hours after the person is dead.”

Tim, as you seem to be the one following Parnia quite closely, perhaps you could comment on this article in the British media.

https://www.express.co.uk/news/science/8...-afterlife

There's a video of him speaking on the Dr. Oz show and also some quotes but one which stands out as inconsistent with what I've heard from Parnia in the past is this:

Quote:However, Dr Parnia says there are scientific explanations for these reaction, and says seeing people is not evidence of the afterlife, but more likely the brain just scanning itself as a survival technique.

I can't find a source for that quote and I suspect it is the reporter putting words in his mouth - perhaps to create the impression of balance or perhaps to appease the skeptical lobby. Does it ring true to you?

It's a fabricated (fake) quote, Dave.....with the reporter's brain (Sean Martin) working properly !

No evidence at all that Parnia has ever said such a thing. Wink  Of that I am certain !  Just shows how you can't (always) trust functioning brains (at least those belonging to some journalists)

I wonder if Parnia has seen the article. I'm sure he would not appreciate being misquoted.
