Chess Match with the Dead

As crazy as I think the whole Super psi thing is, I came across this article on the SPR Facebook page: https://www.academia.edu/31084244/An_Alt...Chess_Game

In short it is related to a case of apparent channeling/mediumship in the form of a chess match. The author of this "alternative explanation" paper is Edwin May, who has been known for trying to cram psi within a materialist model. He references two books that cover the case, but came down on the side of survival rather then super psi in Ed's case. One of the authors appeared on New Thinking Allowed, but I can't track down the video.

Anyone familiar with the case?

I had read only the paper by May and Marwaha, and this blog post by ersby:

I think it's an interesting way to try to get around the possibility of super-psi, but it didn't seem to produce terribly convincing evidence.

I belive DR. Vernon Neppe has written about this.
His new thinking allowed interview, on the subject is quite compelling. In my worthless opinion.

Yes that is true, and Neppe's interview is how I became familiar with the subject. The only two resources Ed May uses in his paper I linked are Neppe's book and another one written by the two guys who originally observed the case. Both of which come down on the side of it showing evidence of survival.

What I'm wondering is what kind of rebuttal would Neppe or the other authors give to May's "super psi" esqe alternative explanation. They clearly don't have the same conclusion he came to, and May has been known to ignore evidence against his "everything is precognition" theory

Thanks for this. I just listened to the interview here:

Both interviewer and interviewee seemed pretty convinced.
There is a sceptical discussion here by Pepijn van Erp:

There is more detailed information on the pages to which links are given at the end of the discussion.
