Astrology?

Hurmanetar on Skeptiko:

"The first few minutes were a rehashing of ideas over astrology... which prompted me to do a birth chart... before today I didn't even know what sign I was.

So I went to a top search result, http://astro.cafeastrology.com/

put in my info, and was actually very shocked at how accurate and detailed my chart summary was. I then put in my fiancee's info and read her chart summary... again... surprisingly accurate. I then got a co-worker to do it, and once again... very much fit him. So if a computer is doing astrology (assuming it is not a neural network), that should definitely eliminate the psi component of it, right?"

There are many types of astrology out there and they don’t all seem to agree. I use Vedic and Eastern with Western practices and more recently came across a Mesopotamian astrologer who, in a purist sense, is quite adamant that sidereal is the only worthy astrology. This hasn’t been my experience per se so the idea of finding the ‘most correct’ astrology, is not about protocols but about what tool or ritual excited you the most. I digress.

The computer isn't 'doing Astrology', it is relating information that is a reflection of the physical reality you create. It, or any other person or device, isn't predicting the future (especially since the future does not exist), they are doing nothing more than allowing for you to better experience the reality you are creating.

It makes no difference what tool you chose. Tarot, mediumship, tea leaves, crystals...all just tools. The power does not exist in those objects, in those rituals ... no real effect comes from them.  The point is that regardless what attribute the object, idea, tool or technique may have doesn't inherently create any effect within you or do anything for you unless you choose to match the frequency of the idea it symbolizes.

So you are generating the effect yourself out of your own energy relying on your belief system (which sometimes can be unconscious) to attract to you the symbol that best reflects the vibration within you, that will allow you permission to be yourself.

Heck, I either left out this part or MyBB ate it.

My first exposure to astrology was when I was 14 or so. The lady whose name I fail to remember 'predicted' that I would marry, be widowed, raise three girls, have several grandchildren.

Spot on.

I suspect the software is now so complex that it has achieved sentience and free-will, and occasionally deletes some statements it disapproves of.

Ah, so it’s an Aries.
